bolivia
The floating islands on Lake Titicaca were a bit of a disappointment for me when I was there. It's ok if you have a day to spare and happen to be in Copacabana (or Puno on the Peruvian side), but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit them.
The number one place I'd recommend to anyone visiting Bolivia is the Uyuni salt desert. It's a really amazing, cool place. You can either do a quick day trip and see just the actual salt desert bit, or go on a 4-day jeep trip, during which you'll see the salt desert, normal desert, lagoons with different colors, etc. It's a really special experience. You can see some of my photos from Uyuni on my website, just click on the following links:
This guy has done the 4-day trip and on his website gives info on how to start the Uyuni tour from La Paz
La Paz is a cool place to visit, just make sure you have at least 2 days if you're arriving from a lower altitude. You'll need at least a day to acclimatize.
If you're only in Bolivia for a week, I'd recommend the following itinerary (supposing you will be arriving from Peru):
- Lake Titicaca, from there bus to La Paz (1d)
- La Paz (2d)
- Bus from La Paz to Oruro and from there train to Uyuni (1d)
- Jeep tour of Salar de Uyuni (4d)
There's 8 days for you and you're still in Uyuni. If you want to continue from Bolivia to Paraguay, my bestest guess is it'd take 2 days to get from Uyuni to Paraguay, if traveling by land. A possible quicker route might be going from Uyuni to either Oruro or Sucre and taking a plane from there to somewhere in or near Paraguay.
